This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement sets down SmartWork’s commitment to preventing slavery and human trafficking in our business activities and the steps we have put in place with the aim of ensuring that there is no slavery or human trafficking in our own business and supply chains. We all have a duty to be alert to risks, however small. Staff are expected to report their concerns and management to act upon them.

SmartWork operates in the payroll umbrella industry, with headquarters in Bristol and operations spanning the UK. Our supply chains include suppliers of services and logistics partners.


We recognise that certain sectors and geographies carry higher risks of modern slavery and human trafficking. We commit to thorough due diligence to mitigate these risks.

3. Policies and Governance

Our commitment to eradicating modern slavery is embedded in our corporate governance through:

  • A Modern Slavery Policy outlining zero tolerance for slavery and human trafficking.

  • Integration of ethical standards into our Supplier Code of Conduct, which mandates compliance with human rights laws and labour standards.

  • Oversight by the Board of Directors and regular reporting to ensure accountability.

  • Appointment of a Modern Slavery Compliance Officer responsible for implementation and monitoring.

We conduct regular risk assessments across our business operations and supply chains, focusing on:

  • Geographic risk factors.

  • Sector-specific vulnerabilities.
