Business Insurance Guide

SmartWork Business Insurance

For your peace of mind, SmartWork maintains business insurance arrangements to support workers engaged through our services.

Our insurance arrangements may include cover for:

  • Employers’ Liability – £10 million
  • Public Liability – £10 million
  • Professional Indemnity – £5 million
  • Medical Malpractice – £2 million

The availability and applicability of cover will depend on the nature of the services provided and the terms, conditions, exclusions and limitations of the relevant insurance policies in force at the time of a claim.

Working Overseas – Business Insurance Requirements

If you undertake work outside the UK as part of your assignment, you are responsible for ensuring that you have the appropriate level of business insurance for your working role and the country in which you will be working.

Your insurance must provide appropriate cover while you are undertaking your professional duties overseas. Standard holiday or personal travel insurance may not cover work-related activities, so check your policy’s terms and conditions carefully before travelling.

Depending on your profession, assignment and the nature of your work, you may need cover for:

  • Business equipment and work-related belongings
  • Business travel and work-related activities overseas
  • Emergency medical treatment and repatriation, where appropriate

You must inform SmartWork before undertaking any overseas work and provide SmartWork with a copy of your insurance policy or certificate of insurance if requested.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your insurance remains valid for the full duration of your overseas assignment and provides an appropriate level of cover for the work you are undertaking.

Insurance requirements may vary depending on your profession, scope of practice, destination, client requirements and the nature of your assignment. If you are unsure whether your existing insurance provides sufficient cover for overseas work, you should contact your insurer or insurance provider before travelling.
