We at SmartWork are delighted to announce that we have once again completed the renewal of our full FCSA accredited status for umbrella employment.

We pride ourselves on the knowledge that we are conforming to the highest standard of compliance within the industry, for the best interests of our employees, recruitment businesses and all other clients that we share a relationship with. We know that our associates will be reassured by this status, which is why we actively opt to undergo the rigorous annual audit and assessment process.

This accolade goes hand in hand with our high levels of personal service, keeping our flexible workforce at the forefront of everything we do and ensuring they are valued throughout their employment with us.

For recruitment businesses, FCSA accredited status brings value and legitimacy to your PSL and helps maintain a healthy supply chain.

Developing and managing an up-to-date and exclusively compliant PSL can be difficult and time-consuming; however, the benefits can be highly rewarding for your recruitment business. Engaging in the wrong partnerships could be detrimental.

With the existence of the FCSA and its list of fully accredited companies (not to be confused with the soon to be discontinued self-certifying associate members), they have done the sifting process for you, having independently regulated assessors stringently test all of its members with the intention of raising industry standards. FCSA accredited members also have their audit disclosed to HMRC.

Many uncompliant umbrella companies will claim their legitimacy, however without the FCSA accreditation, there is no guarantee that they are making the correct HMRC contributions on the contractor’s behalf, or operating unseemly loan schemes, all with the intention of saving them money in the first instance but with the risk of accumulating hefty tax bills in the future. Some solutions also unethically threaten contractor employment rights and pay.

Further plaudits for the FCSA status include its backing from the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC), the largest trade association for the UK’s recruitment sector, who advise their members to use only FCSA Accredited Members.

At a Government level, legislation brought in at the end of 2017, in the form of the Criminal Finance Act, made businesses liable for the actions of their employees and other ‘associated persons’ who intentionally facilitate tax evasion, so agencies can be targeted for allowing non-compliant umbrella companies into the supply chain.
